“In-it Marvlous” Paul Merton was one of the first comedians to take to the Jongleurs stage back in the early 80’s and will make a grand return to the world of stand up next year with his new tour “Out of my head”.Since his debut during the original comedy boom has since turned into a house hold name. With talking dolphins, using pots and pans to make fake prisoners of war and the fact that he has a time tunnel at the back of his fridge' the Paul Merton series was a huge hit for channel 4 in the early 90’s. It was a throw back to the madcap surreal sketch shows of the 60’s such as 'At Last The 1948 Show' and 'Marty' . . . His new show looks to carry on in Pauls tradition of not following a straight forward formula but also include sketches, music, magic, variety and dancing girls. He will be joined on stage by Lee Simpson, Richard Vranch and Suki Webster aka “dancing girls”As if shows like “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” “Have I Got News for You” “Paul Merton: The Series” and “Room 101” weren’t enough to cement him as a British comedy legend also under his list of accolades he can count the fact that comedians such as Ricky Gervais, Dara Ó Briain, Jimmy Carr, Neil Mullarkey, Daniel Kitson, Sean Lock, all list him as an one of their main influences. This is the second time Merton has had a big gap before returning to stand up, in made a triumphant return in 1999 after a similar amount of time away. With such a presence on TV people found it hard to believe people this was where he cut his teeth, "I hadn't done standup comedy for about 10 years, and it was like I'd never done it. People had no idea I'd been a standup comedian; they thought I was born to sit behind a desk and make quips about the week's news."
