Fictional Jongleur returns home!

Descending like a god on his disciples (with the use of the in store escalator) Alan Partridge was met by raptures of applause from the 400+ fans gathered in the Norwich (Castle Street) Waterstone’s to hear extracts from his autobiography I, Partridge.  Adorning typical Partridge attire (a stunning claret ski jacket, emerald shirt with what can only be described as a “snazzy” tie, capped off with the ever present brushed denims and box-fresh white trainers.) It was a moment that overwhelmed the hundreds of adoring fans who had been queuing for hours just to catch a glimpse of Steve Coogan appearing for the book signing as the fictional DJ. It was proof that Partridge is one of the most loved characters in british comedy history making his debut nearly 20 years ago. Partridge was first introduced to audiences in the hugely popular parody news show “The Day Today” but it was Jongleurs where Coogan first found his comedy voice where he regularly preformed in the mid 80’s. After reading extracts from the book regarding his birth, his first sexual conquest and the moment all fans will be familiar with, the day his life Carol left him. Partridge then adorned his hand with a surgical glove telling the audience “don’t take this personally, it’s just that if I did catch a disease I’d never be able to track down who gave it to me” and posed for pictures with the fans. When the former Jongleur was asked by Amazon, “did you enjoy writing the book? Alan replied:“Yes!. . .Yes! No the question you should of asked, or I think perhaps you know, if you had done a little bit more research. You, tit! Is how do you regard the book? And the answer to that question, would be: it’s the best book i’ve ever written and one of the best books i’ve ever read. It’s not Hillary Mantel, it’s not Simon Shaman, it’s not Andrew Mcnabb.  It’s all of those yet it’s none of them, yet all of them. And that sounds a bit silly, but when you think about it, it’s not.”The normally mellow and tranquil shop was rocking with laughter all afternoon with fans left star struck and with split sides.  Tim Vaughan told, The Advertiser “We had been queuing up since 2pm and it was well worth the wait. “We are huge Partridge fans, I’m shaking. It’s like meeting a diluted messiah.Alix High-Caston told reporters, “It was brilliant, he was so funny, hilarious. It just seemed so surreal.”Matthew Smith, 25, “It was a real treat. It was Alan, it wasn’t Steve Coogan but actually Alan and that was great. And when you read the book, you can hear his voice.”In preparation for the appearance, Partridge used his Twitter account to list his demands: “Reserve right to use signature stamper or stand-in if hand gets over-tired, my table is to be positioned in Classics. Not TV, not Autobiography, not Bestsellers – Classics – and the chair is to be generously cushioned”.
